In 2009, 70 wiener dogs raced in seven heats. Another dozen dogs were there to cheer them on.
Chubby of Naperville, Illinois, won the race and was declared the Best Wiener Dog Racer in the Tri-State area.

Bleachers were added in 2008, which helped the children to see better and allowed others to sit for all the races. This event is loved by all ages, and the dogs and owners travel from Chicago, the Quad Cities, Minneapolis, Cedar Rapids, Rockford and other places just to participate.
Divisions: There are three divisions - puppy (under 1 year of age), adult (one year of age or older) and senior (nine years of age and older).
Heats: Heats are organized according to division and the ages of the dogs in that division. Each heat will have a winner.
All heat winners advance to a semi-final.
Handlers: Each dog must have someone to release the dog and someone to receive. Volunteers are available to release, if needed. The receivers may use any means to call the dog (holding a toy or treat and/or calling the dog). Throwing of objects is not allowed.
Race Entry Fee: No entry fee for all dogs pre-registered by October 1, 2010.
Entry fee is $5 for all dogs registered on-site the day of the event. On-site registration is from Noon-1:00 p.m.
Event Admission: Every person entering the festival grounds must pay $5 admission (with the exception of children 12 and under). Proceeds go to the Galena Lions Club.
