Help conserve sight by donating your usable eyeglasses to children and adults throughout the
world. Eyeglasses donated to Lions Clubs help millions to experience corrected vision for the first time, enabling them to read, attend school, gain employment, and take care of their families. It is estimated that worldwide Lions Clubs collect more than 20 million glasses each year.
All types of usable eyeglasses and sunglasses, prescription and non-prescription, are accepted. Once donated, eyeglasses are cleaned and classified. The eyeglasses are then distributed, free
of charge, to people in need.

The Lions of Illinois Foundation Candy Day event is held during the second weekend of October, however clubs have the option to solicit donations anytime during that month. All or most of the proceeds go to various statewide projects, including Camp Lions for children and adults, Mobile Hearing Unit, Infant Hearing Screening, LIF Funds for Emergency, and many more.
The Galena Lions Club participates in this annual fundraiser. Members wear the distinctive yellow vests and solicit donations on Main Street and supporters receive a roll of candy. The club donated $500 to the causes in 2008 & 2009.
Every summer, a bus comes to the area for two days to give free screenings to people in the community. One year it is the hearing bus and the next year it is the vision bus. Participants will
find out how to sign up from articles in the local newspapers and flyers around town. The bus parks
in the Walmart parking lot off of Highway 20 and walk-ins are welcome.
In 2008, the Galena Lions Club gave two scholarships to Galena students entering the field
of Speech-Language Pathology. Each were awarded $500 towards their education. One scholarship of $500 was awarded in 2009 to a student entering a college with a deaf education program.
This scholarship is open to Galena residents who are entering or going back to college for a degree related to helping others with sight and hearing needs and have a GPA of at least 3.0. The Galena Lions Club Sight & Sound Scholarship forms are available at the Galena High School, the Tri-State Christian School, or by contacting the Lions at 815-331-0180 or by e-mail to
